We’re working with a fast-growing technology company in Lisbon building systems at the intersection of sport, trading, finance and real-time data.

This is a brilliant opportunity for backend-first engineers who enjoy solving real problems, building reliable systems and working close to the action. You do not need to be the finished article, but you do need to be sharp, curious, hands-on and able to show real evidence of what you have built.

More about the client and the role

Our client is hiring several backend engineers across junior, API-focused and market-making engineering roles.

The team is building high-performance backend systems that support real-time data, odds feeds, APIs, order management, database infrastructure, scraping, mapping, scheduling and market-making workflows.

Depending on your background, the role may involve:

• Building and improving backend services using Node.js, TypeScript and SQL.
• Developing scalable API infrastructure.
• Working with real-time data flows, WebSockets, streaming systems or high-throughput services.
• Supporting odds feed API infrastructure and data mapping systems.
• Helping optimise databases, latency, reliability and performance.
• Working closely with a small engineering team of around 3 to 4 people.
• Contributing to systems used across sports, betting, trading or prediction market environments.
• Getting involved in Python, Rust, Docker, AWS, GCP or similar technologies where relevant.

Who are we looking for?

We are open to different levels, from strong early-career engineers through to more experienced backend developers.

The most important thing is that you can show genuine technical depth and real evidence of what you have built.

You will be a strong fit if you have:

• Commercial or strong project experience with Node.js, TypeScript and SQL.
• A backend-first mindset.
• A live GitHub profile showing recent commits or real shipped projects.
• Experience with APIs and modern backend frameworks.
• Good understanding of software fundamentals and system design basics.
• Interest in real-time systems, sports data, odds, trading, betting, finance or market-making.
• A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset.
• Ability to work well in a small, fast-paced team.
• Lisbon-based location, or a genuine willingness to relocate.
• EU work eligibility.
• Comfort working around 4 days per week on-site in Lisbon.

Nice to have, but not essential

• Python.
